El origen del síndrome de Capgras es una desconexión entre la corteza temporal, donde los rostros son generalmente reconocidos, y el sistema límbico, implicado en las emociones. Entonces al no poder juntar recuerdos y sentimientos, cada vez que ven a una persona piensan que son otras personas ídenticas, es decir, impostores o dobles.

Capgras delusion affecects one's identification capacity. The person holds the delusion that a relative has been replaced by an identical-looking impostor.
It's origin comes from a disconnection between the temporal cortex, where faces are usually recognized, and the limbic system, involved in emotions. As they can't join memories and feelings, each time they see a person they already know, they keep thinking he or she is an identical-looking impostor or double.
